VP & General Manager, Program Underwriting and Risk
CGS Health Group is seeking a talented and motivated VP & General Manager to build and lead our underwriting and risk assessment team supporting our self-funded group health benefits programs. This position will reside at the holding company level, collaborating with our third-party administration entities for both Union/ Taft-Hartley funds and commercial clients (both fully-insured conversion and established self-funded clients).
The ideal candidate will possess the technical aptitude to leverage our data analytics platform to identify optimal clients and pair them with suitable self-funded group health plans. The primary objectives of the role are to:
1. Balance consistent annual health plan client renewals;
2. Enhance member outcomes and cost efficiency; and
3. Bolster profitability through underwriting optimization and captive risk sharing programs.
The company is establishing this executive role as an integral part of the team to play a key part as the Company grows its gross written premium associated with its full-service group health benefits administration and medical stop-loss programs.
Overview of Key Responsibilities:
• Collaborating with other departments on new self-funded group health products and services.
• Overseeing the medical stop-loss reinsurance underwriting and risk assessment.
• Leading the captive programs’ actuarial analysis and risk transfer entity formation.
• Developing a business plan and hiring schedule to in-source all underwriting and associated back-office
functions over the next 12 months.
• Creating and implementing underwriting guidelines and risk assessment procedures.
• Staying up to date with industry trends to maintain competitiveness.
• Overseeing insurance industry and regulatory best practices to maintain compliance with all applicable
laws and regulations.
Qualifications:
• A bachelor’s degree in a related field such as business, finance, or economics.
• At least 10 years of experience in underwriting, risk management, or insurance.
• Strong leadership, management, analytical, problem-solving, communication, decision-making, and
interpersonal skills are important for this role.
• Professional certifications such as the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) or Associate in Risk
Management (ARM) are a plus.
